21 Days of PRayer Guide 2024

At GCC we long to be a people that PRAY FIRST. We want to be a church that depends on prayer, so starting the year with a focus on simple guided prayer is one way we can strive for that goal.  For the next 21 days, we ask you to take this daily guide and pray united prayers with your church family.  Feel free to shape your prayer time in a way that fits into your rhythms of life. Reach out if you need help getting started, and thanks for going on this journey with us.

Day 1 // Our Heart

Psalm 139:23–24 (ESV)
Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

Prayer
As we begin 2024, let us invite Jesus to have complete freedom to lead our hearts in the direction He wants for us. Offer the year ahead back to God as an offering.

Day 2 // Confession & Repentance

Psalm 51:10–12 (ESV)
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Prayer
Confession and repentance must be a regular practice as we pray. Today, let’s invite God to reveal sin in our lives, confess that to Him, and pray for the courage to move in a new direction.

Day 3 // Gratitude

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV)
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Prayer
Today, we pause to focus not on what we need but on what God has done. Let’s offer prayers of gratitude to God for what is doing in our lives right now. Thank God for his provision, protection, and presence in these days.

Day 4 // Spiritual Hunger

Psalm 42:1–2 (ESV)
As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

Prayer
Today, we pray we want to invite God to make us more hungry for his work in our lives. May our hearts long to know God, hear from God, and trust God more deeply daily.

Day 5 // Celebration

Philippians 4:4 (ESV)
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.

Prayer
We love to celebrate with holidays, personal accomplishments, and achievements. How often do we stop to celebrate to goodness of God? Today, let’s take time to praise God for who He is, all He has done, and all He has promised to do!

Day 6 // Patience

Psalm 27:14 (ESV)
Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

Prayer
Today, let’s pray an honest prayer full of hope that God will help us wait well when we need Him to move. We wait and embrace patience as an act of faith. God, we trust you to work ahead of us, and we wait for your work with expectation.

Day 7 // Attention

Philippians 4:6 (ESV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Prayer
It’s easy to allow our attention to be consumed with our emotions and circumstances. Today, let us invite God to have our attention more than our circumstances. Lay your worries and fears at His feet today.

Day 8 // Family

Numbers 6:24–26 (ESV)
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Prayer
This week, we are praying that God will draw people around us to Himself and give us chances to share our faith. Today, pray a prayer of blessing on your family. Pray God will allow you to share your faith in Jesus with anyone in your family wandering far from Him.

Day 9 // Neighbors

John 14:6 (ESV)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Prayer

Prayer
We love to complain about the government, but how often do we pray for those in leadership? Today, let’s slow down and pray for our local, state, and national leaders. Pray God will place people in power so that the Gospel will flourish, justice will be made clear, and our laws will reflect the heart of God for the good of people.
