21 Days of PRayer Guide 2024

At GCC we long to be a people that PRAY FIRST. We want to be a church that depends on prayer, so starting the year with a focus on simple guided prayer is one way we can strive for that goal.  For the next 21 days, we ask you to take this daily guide and pray united prayers with your church family.  Feel free to shape your prayer time in a way that fits into your rhythms of life. Reach out if you need help getting started, and thanks for going on this journey with us.

Day 1 // Our Heart

Psalm 139:23–24 (ESV)
Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

As we begin 2024, let us invite Jesus to have complete freedom to lead our hearts in the direction He wants for us. Offer the year ahead back to God as an offering.

Day 2 // Confession & Repentance

Psalm 51:10–12 (ESV)
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Confession and repentance must be a regular practice as we pray. Today, let’s invite God to reveal sin in our lives, confess that to Him, and pray for the courage to move in a new direction.

Day 3 // Gratitude

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV)
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Today, we pause to focus not on what we need but on what God has done. Let’s offer prayers of gratitude to God for what is doing in our lives right now. Thank God for his provision, protection, and presence in these days.

Day 4 // Spiritual Hunger

Psalm 42:1–2 (ESV)
As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

Today, we pray we want to invite God to make us more hungry for his work in our lives. May our hearts long to know God, hear from God, and trust God more deeply daily.

Day 5 // Celebration

Philippians 4:4 (ESV)
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.

We love to celebrate with holidays, personal accomplishments, and achievements. How often do we stop to celebrate to goodness of God? Today, let’s take time to praise God for who He is, all He has done, and all He has promised to do!

Day 6 // Patience

Psalm 27:14 (ESV)
Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

Today, let’s pray an honest prayer full of hope that God will help us wait well when we need Him to move. We wait and embrace patience as an act of faith. God, we trust you to work ahead of us, and we wait for your work with expectation.

Day 7 // Attention

Philippians 4:6 (ESV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

It’s easy to allow our attention to be consumed with our emotions and circumstances. Today, let us invite God to have our attention more than our circumstances. Lay your worries and fears at His feet today.

Day 8 // Family

Numbers 6:24–26 (ESV)
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

This week, we are praying that God will draw people around us to Himself and give us chances to share our faith. Today, pray a prayer of blessing on your family. Pray God will allow you to share your faith in Jesus with anyone in your family wandering far from Him.

Day 9 // Neighbors

John 14:6 (ESV)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Many around us don’t know Jesus as savior and friend! Take time today to think about your neighbors. Pray that God will draw them to faith in Jesus. Pray that God will help you connect with people in your neighborhood, condo, or apartment to have a Gospel conversation!

Day 10 // Friends

John 3:16 (ESV)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

We all have friends that we love deeply that are far from Jesus. Think about the people you call friends from a spiritual perspective. Take time to pray God will work in the lives of your friends and use you to lead them toward Jesus as you live life together.

Day 11 // Coworkers

John 3:17 (ESV)
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

We spend more time at work than anywhere else in our life! God has placed the people you work with around you intentionally. Take some time today to pray for your coworkers and for opportunities to lead them toward Jesus. Pray God will help you see your work as a mission field.

Day 12 // Our City

Jeremiah 29:7 (ESV)
But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

We love our city. Let’s pray for people in our city to come to Jesus. Let’s pray for the local churches in our city. Let’s pray for God to raise up followers or Jesus all across our city to make a difference for the Kingdom of God.

Day 13 // The World

Matthew 28:19–20 (ESV)
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

Jesus came to bring hope and salvation to all people in all nations. We have a global faith, and God is at work worldwide. Let’s pray for peace around the world. Pray for churches and missionaries worldwide to progress for the Gospel. Pray that people suffering for the Gospel will be protected as they serve.

Day 14 // Our Government

1 Timothy 2:1–2 (ESV)
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

We love to complain about the government, but how often do we pray for those in leadership? Today, let’s slow down and pray for our local, state, and national leaders. Pray God will place people in power so that the Gospel will flourish, justice will be made clear, and our laws will reflect the heart of God for the good of people.

Day 15 // Our Schools

Matthew 19:14 (ESV)
but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

We long for children, teens, and college students in Greenville County to discover Jesus. Today, pray for students, teachers, and administrators in local schools and universities. Pray that followers of Christ on local campuses can point many toward Jesus.

Day 16 // The Least of These

Matthew 25:40 (ESV)
And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

Today, we consider those in our community with significant needs. Every life around us matters deeply, regardless of their circumstances.  Take today to pray for the homeless, mentally ill, disabled, and outcast. Pray that God will bring these people hope, healing, and love. Pray we will find ways to serve and advocate for the least of these.

Day 17 // The Hurting

Psalm 69:29 (ESV)

No one is immune to the reality of pain and hurt we all face. Today, we pause to pray for the hurt we and others are dealing with daily. Pray that God will bring healing to those around us. Pray God will use us to speak hope into someone’s life.

Day 18 // The Addict

Galatians 5:1 (ESV)
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Everyone faces the temptation to be addicted to some aspect of the world around us. Today, we consider those struggling with addiction. Pray God will break the chains of bondage people face and lead people toward healing and freedom.

Day 19 // The Lonely

Deuteronomy 31:8 (ESV)
It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.

Many around us feel very isolated and alone. Today, we pray for the lonely. Pray that God will be present to those who feel abandoned and unknown. Pray God will bring people into the lives of the lonely to be voices of hope and health.

Day 20 // Those Searching

Jeremiah 29:13 (ESV)
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

Many around us are filled with discontent because they search for more than this world offers. So many are searching for things only Jesus can give them. Today, pray for those searching for more and that they will encounter someone who can lead them to a new life in Christ.

Day 21 // The Church

Matthew 16:18 (ESV)
And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

We end these 21 days praying for our church. God has placed us in our part of the city to lead people toward an authentic pursuit of Jesus together in community. Pray that God will empower our church to be faithful. healthy, and joyful as we strive to follow Jesus together.
